[Man Crush Monday]: Megane Day 2018!

Wow, it’s been such a long time since I’ve done a man crush monday post.

As you know, my dearest friend and fellow blogger Mel, wrote about Megane Day in a special post you can find here. And, since it’s on a Monday, what the heck, why not participate.

Just a quick apology here: I’ve not been active on here much, and I’ll probably do an update soon about what I’ve been up to, but hey, lets get on with the celebration of Megane Day!

So far this year, I’ve had three favorite megane’s. I’m sure one will come as no surprise, but the other two are from series that I’ve recently completed.

Tenya Iida, My Hero Academia

Yeah, seriously no surprise. My Hero Academia has quickly become a beloved series of mine. The entire class is full of lovable characters, and Tenya is especially one of them.

The class rep is known to be a stickler for the rules, but heck yenno, he’s really great at rounding the class up and leading them when they need some guidance. So much so, he can almost be selfless, opting to get tagged in the provisional license exam in order for his classmates (like Aoyama) to pass.

Off the bat, I wasn’t too fond of Tenya, to be honest. Especially when he was so eager to write Izuku off so quickly in the beginning of the series. But, he realized his mistake and eventually becomes one of Izuku’s best friends, and often follows Izuku’s lead but also keeps him in check. They have a great camaraderie.

Hirotaka Nifuji, Wotakoi

Hirotaka is me. He’s all of us. Hirotaka is from Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku. And while he’s a stoic monotone personality, there was just so much of him that was relatable.

If you’ve seen the series, you’ll see he’s a gamer otaku. Always on a handheld console, at any free time he gets. And I get it. I get you Hirotaka, because I am you.

I laughed so hard when he was gaming at lunch at work, and his supervisor says, “Are you seriously playing a game at work?” and his response is to look at the clock and says, “but it’s lunch time.” It made me laugh because, I’ve been him. When Collar x Malice came out on PSP, you can get your a** I was on my PSVita any chance I got, and yes, that included my lunch break at work. I would eat and play the game.

He was an endearing character on Wotakoi, which was easily one of my favorites if not the only RomCom I’ve watching this year so far.

Murasaki, Hamatora

I realize this is an older series, but I happened to watch it this year. And once I started Hamatora, I couldn’t stop watching it. I rather enjoyed it, and I’m still in the midst of starting season 2.

Murasaki was probably my favorite of the series, and that might be because he’s more pragmatic of the two main minimum holders of the series. I also found him to be one of the prettier boys of the series. It’s funny that I would include him, just because his minimum is only activated when he takes OFF his glasses.

That wraps up this week/years Megane Day!

Who’s your favorite megane character? Let me know in the comments below, and please check out Mel’s post on megane’s! She’ll be doing a round-up post that includes everyone that’s participated.

Prince Noctis Lucius Caelum

Last but not least of the FFXV boyband  crew features is the crown prince Noctis Lucius Caelum.

Noctis is the main protagonist and the playable character in Final Fantasy XV. Noctis seemed broody to me at first, an emo-kid, but you know what. He has his reasons, and I was a bit brash in thinking it was some brat. Again, you can find out more about the prince in the Brotherhood FFXV OVA series available on Crunchyroll.

Emotional Baggage

Yes, I said he was broody, emotional and kind of a brat. But given his circumstances it makes sense. Noctis lost his Mother at a young age, and his Father had to rule the kingdom, he was left alone for long periods of time. So naturally, he’s bottled up a lot of these emotions, struggling to express and articulate how he feels about his situation or situations in general. You can find out more about what happens specifically in the last episode of the OVA series titled: The Warmth of Light

But aside from his emotional struggles, the prince is a witty character full of sarcastic comebacks should the need for one arise. He’s actually quite kind to those around him (see below). And although he can be hot headed. However, he is stuck in the rut of internalizing things and learning to deal with things himself versus reaching for help even through his friends.

Family over Duty

Despite his royal lineage, Noctis treats his traveling companions as equals. He values them for more than their duties to him as the crown prince. He grew up with these guys, and has treated them more like family than subjects or as mere guardsmen meant to serve him.

Royal Arms

Noctis wasn’t the strongest when growing up and is physically weak, which is when Gladio steps in and helps him train to become stronger. Since he is the heir to the throne, he naturally possesses incredible abilities. I’m referring to his ability to use the Armiger, in which he can materialize one of 13 special weapons. It’s a side-quest to find all the weapons, and I’m half-way there! It can take a toll on him to use such weapons, so use it wisely.

What do you guys think of Prince Noctis? Did you have bad first impressions of the crown prince too? Let me know in the comments below.

The Little Brother: Prompto Argentum

Welcome back to another fantastic Man Crush Monday! As a follow-up to last week’s promise, I am continuing the FFXV features.

Last we looked at Team Mom: Ignis Scientia. This week I wanted to take a look at the baby of the bunch. The adorkable kid brother: Prompto. I have to say, while Ignis really takes the cake for being such an all-arounder man that can do it all; there are so many endearing qualities of Prompto as well! He’s probably the most grounded, relateable character on FFXV. Uh, and it probably helps that he’s a blonde…? Continue reading “The Little Brother: Prompto Argentum”

Team Mom: Ignis Scientia

This is a confession of a Team Mom. It’s not really fact, but I think one could be found in any group. As someone that’s temporarily taken our lovely Arria’s spot as schedule coordinator for OWLs for the time being, and as a member of the Innominate Anime Podcast Group, I can relate to this week’s MCM. I equate myself to Makoto Tachibana, another team mom, and I absolutely love today’s MCM. My affinity for the team mom type/trope is becoming quite clear.

I’ve been submersed in playing Final Fantasy XV as of late, you can find all my tweets using the hashtag #ZelsFFXVRoadTrip. All the boys have grown on me over the course of time I’ve spent in-game (I’m at about 40 hours into it). I’m still trying to get through as many of the sidequests as I can before I set sail for Altissia, and I thought what better way to bring back MCM but to spend the next couple of weeks focusing on the boys of FFXV. The order in which they appear is not akin to favoritism necessarily, but I have to kick off this venture with the FFXV Team Mom: Ignis Scientia.

If you haven’t watched the short anime about the characters of FFXV, you can find Ignis’ episode here: BROTHERHOOD FINAL FANTASY XV Episode 4 – Bittersweet Memories. It goes into a bit of the background story of Noctis and Ignis prior to the events of the storyline in the FFXV video game.

Pretty Setter! Akaashi Keiji

Hey hey hey! It’s time for yet another MCM! I haven’t fully worked out how I’ll be approaching my MCM posts from now on (now that I’m without prompt) but! fear not, I come with a very special bishie: Akaashi Keiji.

Now, as you know Haikyuu!! is no stranger to beautiful men (as is most sport anime’s). Especially, the setters (I call them the pretty setter brigade). But I wanted to feature Akaashi today because this beautiful boy’s birthday is tomorrow: December 5th.

The Abundant Bishies of Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis

Happy Monday! As per usual, I’m here to chase your Monday Blues away with your weekly dose of Man Crush Monday!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s OP/ED I’ve been into the Shingeki no Bahamut (Rage of Bahamut). Shingeki no Bahamut is a fantasy adventure anime that tells a tale of the relationships  between angels, humans and demons. (I don’t want to say too much because I’m planning a review). I really liked the aesthetics of this show, and that had nothing to do with the men of the series. In fact I was taken aback by the amount of bishies that are in this anime.

Let me just say upfront that, this was truly intentional design choice. Also, I want to thank Leth for the very animated discussion on bishounen’s earlier this morning when I was contemplating about my MCM, and also to Mark who listened to me go on and on about the bishies of Genesis which allowed me to realize that these guys should be my feature on this week’s MCM.

[Tag Game!] 5 Flaming Hotties

The Ultimate of Ultimate Anime Crushes

Welcome back to Man Crush Monday! OMG guys, I’ve finally made it to the end of Mel’s 25 Days Anime Male Challenge. Granted it started off as inspiration for my MCM Series and was supposed to take 25 weeks. That, unfortunately was not the case. Lots of setbacks happened which prevented me from staying on top of this. You can see her original prompt here. Or you can see my own prompt here; I had wanted to do my WCW in the same way, but it evolved as you all know.

So, my Ultimate Anime Crush. I mean, I think we all know who this IS. Although, lately it seems Makoto Tachibana has been lowkey invading this spot. I still have a soft spot for this particular character. Can you guess who it is? Take a guess before proceeding after the break!

10 Swordsmen That are a Cut Above the Rest

Good afternoon everyone! Today’s MCM features my Top 10 Swordsmen. Granted,  I’m pretty sure I’m missing a ton of really good swordsmen that are ultimate classics, but you’ll have to forgive me as I have yet to have seen them! (Ex: Ruroni Kenshin, Bleach). So let’s start the countdown to my ultimate swordsmen!

10. King Bradley (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

king_bradley_fma

King Bradley’s speed with the blade is incredible, but his overall characterization wasn’t my absolute favorite when it comes to swordsman.

Orange You Glad For Man Crush Monday?

LOL, okay I’ll apologize for such a pun of a title. It’s horrible. I could’ve changed it, but I’ve decided to keep the cheesiness of it. So, Sorry not sorry, I guess? With that being said, this week’s MCM features my top 10 orange-haired men.

10. Robato Hatohara (Robot X Laserbeam)

The newest character to add to my ever-growing obsession with sports anime. Robato hails from the new manga Robot X Laserbeam, a manga about Golf, from the mangaka Tadatoshi Fujimaki, the creator of my beloved Kuroko no Basket. Robato’s nickname is “Robo-Kun” as he is expressionless, straight-faced, and completely honest (very much like Kuroko). His classmates basically see him as a robot due to all of his mannerisms. Also, he’s a megane!! Who doesn’t love meganes! ❤
