10 Swordsmen That are a Cut Above the Rest

Good afternoon everyone! Today’s MCM features my Top 10 Swordsmen. Granted,  I’m pretty sure I’m missing a ton of really good swordsmen that are ultimate classics, but you’ll have to forgive me as I have yet to have seen them! (Ex: Ruroni Kenshin, Bleach). So let’s start the countdown to my ultimate swordsmen!

10. King Bradley (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

King Bradley’s speed with the blade is incredible, but his overall characterization wasn’t my absolute favorite when it comes to swordsman.

Anime Watch Update

I tried my hardest to catch up with my shows, I’ve gotten most of my winter line-up except for Kuzu No Honkai & Rakugo. I’m like 3 weeks behind so..please bear with me. Writing these reviews take a lot more time than I thought. I seriously wonder how I can get this to work more in the future! But here we go! There may be a lack of graphics so I apologize in advance.

I also have a special review coming up sometime soon. I watched a film that’s a bit dated because a friend (Naja) told me too, and I was utterly at a loss for words by it. That should be up soon sometime!

Acca-13
I finally caught up. Acca has been interesting to watch with all these little twists in the plot concerning Jean. I was not expecting that revelation in episode 8. And all I can say is NINO!! Boy was I ever wrong to judge his character. I didn’t understand him, I didn’t want to understand him. I thought he was possibly the worst friend/person there was on the show but my gosh was I wrong. Nino has endured so much, and his entire life revolved around Jean, and he kept on with his Father’s duties making them his own, following the story that his father and he and created as he grew up. Ah, I feel horrible for having misjudged Nino this entire time.

Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Impure King Arc
Stuff is finally happening with Rin and the gang. It was a really long set-up to get the story going. I still forget that the last half of the first season isn’t canon. You’d think midway through the season I’d finally get that stuck in my head, but nope, it hasn’t really sunk in. I noticed in the latest episode Yukio’s eyes have a flash of the blue flame associated with Satan; I’m assuming his powers may have been locked deep in hiding and due to the stress that Todo had put him under by threatening to kill him may have awakened that part of him. I’m really curious if he does get demonic powers like Rin. Also, there was a flash of telekinesis between the two brothers. I won’t like I low key wanted Rin to jump and search for his brother and save the day, but he couldn’t leave Bon. AH! I was also surprised by Bon’s reasons for being upset at Rin; it wasn’t that he was Satan’s son, but rather he couldn’t confide in his friends that he was carrying this burden alone. I’m a bit thrown off by that one character, Shima. He was really going to abandon his friends?! Ahh, I was thrown off by him completely!

Fuuka

Surprisingly Fuuka has kept my interest. I think it’s the musical aspect at this point but still, I look forward to each episode. Now that Yuu and Tama-chan are officially dating I’m more keen to see them break up and see him get with Fuuka. Because that ending with the photo of two hands clasped as a background photo has me intrigued. Whose hand is he really holding?

Super Lovers 2

I’ve been keeping up with the manga, and despite my complaints of the inconsistency of the animation I’m not gonna lie; this had me fan-griping from time to time. Damn those shojou sparkles they implement. What is it about that effect that garners fangirl squeals? I’ll have to write a post about that at some point!

Nanbaka

There’s a lot going on in Nanbaka, we recently found out a few of the back stories of the inmates, particularly Nico. His split personality is suppressed by all those medications he takes which makes total sense but seriously what’s with these prisons doing crazy dangerous experiments on the inmates!?

Masamune-kun no Revenge
I’m just about caught up with Masamune. But I’m not going to lie, this one is a struggle to keep up with. The ani-masochist in me knows I’ll finish this but I’m starting to get bored with it. I’m waiting for something interesting to happen. Aside from the introduction of this new character whose motive we’re not sure of quite yet, it seems to be repetitive week to week.

Blue Exorcist: True Cross Academy

Welcome to Fantasy Friday in which I will look at fantastical pieces of Architecture found in the anime world. These posts will probably vary on length depending on if and what I am able to pinpoint as relevant as well as what I find myself drawn to. This will mostly be Architecture Eye Candy; as someone that’s been trained in design, theory and as someone that loves history and research; sometimes I find it easy to find a precedence or correlation from the anime to something that’s real and tangible.

What I love about architecture in anime or any kind of animation or CGI scene is that there are no limits to what can be created; things can be overly exaggerated which makes it so fantastical – like you’re in a dream world. And I’m all about outrageous designs!

To kick it off, I wanted to look at Blue Exorcist’s True Cross Academy.  It’s been awhile since I had watched the anime. I had decided to re-watch season 1 on a whim because I wanted background noise while I worked on my computer (this was before I even knew that season 2 was coming). The moment True Cross appeared on screen, I immediately thought I should make a blog series out of this!

True Cross Academy

True Cross Academy reminds me of an MC Escher painting.  A complex puzzle of sorts that loop infinitely. Granted, at least the Cram School is designed that way, with the use of a key that can open up a door that leads to almost anywhere on campus.

Entrance_Hall.png
True Cross Academy Entrance Hall

Since Blue Exorcist deals with themes of christianity, and there’s some mention of the Vatican, it only made sense for some of the Architectural elements to have some Italian inspiration.  For instance, the Entrance hall of True Cross looks similar to that of a Milan Shopping center in Italy, more specifically: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, located next to the Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) next to the Duomo (milan cathedral). This space is bascailly an arcade that is roofed with arching glass and cast-iron roof, which was popular in the 19th century.

Dining_Hall.png
True Cross Academy Dining Hall

The Dining Hall to me actually reminds me of two things. First, it looks much like the apse or knave of a cathedral (the rop right photo). Vaulted ceilings are the dead give away.  The second thing it reminds me of is The Great Hall that’s featured in all of the Harry Potter films. Now, Harry Potter came first (2001), so it’s quite possible it served as an inspiration to Blue Exorcist(2011).

Cram-School.png
True Cross Academy Cram School Hall

This is just an image of the cram school within the campus grounds of True Cross. However, it’s location isn’t really known, and is only accessible with a certain kind of key.  I couldn’t think of any architectural inspiration for this particular space. The layout is similar to that of a knave of a cathedral like the dining hall above. The only thing to notice is the color palette. It has bright vibrant colors but is also shrouded in darkness which is an indication it’s somewhere underground.  The color palette also helps differentiate this place from all the neutral tones that are found in the “normal” places found throughout the campus.

That’s all she wrote for this Fantasy Friday. Hope you guys enjoyed it! If you guys have a particular anime you’d like me to look at, let me know in the comments below! I’m always open to suggestions!

WINTER 2017 – Watch List

The Winter anime season is already upon us. I’ve had a few on my “plan to watch list” on MAL for quite some time, but looking back at it now, there may be a few more I’m adding.

My top 5 anticipated are:

5-MOST-ANTICIPATED.png

  1. Ao No Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen
I’ve been a fan of Blue Exorcist for awhile, and am actually surprised to find out that the second arc of the first season was non-canon; so when I saw the latest first episode I was really confused.
  2. Kuzu no Honkai (Scum’s Wish)
The story is intriguing and I had actually started reading the manga recently on a whim and not knowing that it was going to be adapted.
  3. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
First season was a real hit for me. Tragic but good. I can’t wait to see what Yakumo is up to – he seems to have always been the character I’ve been attached to on this show.
  4. Masamune-kun no Revenge
When I read the premise of the show I just figured this might actually be a good comedy. So I’m giving it a shot
  5. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka
The art style is what really drew me into this one; and considering it’s from madhouse, I figured what can go wrong with it?

Other’s I’ll be following/checking out:

2017_lineup

  1. Chain Chronicle
Intrigued by it just because it’s Fantasy.
  2. Fuuka
a twitter obsessed kid? I’m in!
  3. Little Witch Academia
This one was recommended to me by someone. I know Netflix has the movie, and its from Trigger whose artstyle I rather like. So I’ll be checking this one out too.
  4. Super Lovers 2
I read the manga so….yeah..just gonna leave that one there.
  5. Rewrite: Moon & Terra
even tho I hated the first season I’ll probably check it out just because I started it – ahh the animasochist in me
  6. Chaos;Child
…debating because i haven’t seen chaos;head yet – and I’m probably going to binge watch chaos;head before this even starts.

Continuations from Fall 2016 that I’m still following:

  1. 3-gatsu no Lion
To be honest I need to catch up on this one.
  2. All Out!!
What can I say I’m really a sucker for the sports genre. Despite its crazy weird sometimes off-putting art style – I’m actually enjoying this one even though it’s got all the sports anime cliche’s and tropes on it. I still like this one. I may end up writing a post about it….maybe…a very huge maybe…

What’s everyone else looking forward to this coming Winter season?
