Welcome back to Man Crush Monday! OMG guys, I’ve finally made it to the end of Mel’s 25 Days Anime Male Challenge. Granted it started off as inspiration for my MCM Series and was supposed to take 25 weeks. That, unfortunately was not the case. Lots of setbacks happened which prevented me from staying on top of this. You can see her original prompt here. Or you can see my own prompt here; I had wanted to do my WCW in the same way, but it evolved as you all know.
So, my Ultimate Anime Crush. I mean, I think we all know who this IS. Although, lately it seems Makoto Tachibana has been lowkey invading this spot. I still have a soft spot for this particular character. Can you guess who it is? Take a guess before proceeding after the break!
Hello my dear readers! It’s been a really long time since I’ve done one of these! It’s also amazing, that I’ve been using a prompt for this that should’ve ended back in July! I’m now one week away from completing the prompt. I’ll repost it when I’ve finished it as a refresher. But anyways, another Monday has come and this week is a follow up to my last MCM’s post which was also a Boys Love theme featuring Doumeki & Yashiro. This time I’m featuring my favorite OTP (one true pairing) above all other non-canon ‘ships. I say non-canon because Free! is not a BL, although it can be interpreted as such by the fandom.
If you’ve been following me for quite some time, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve only mentioned Free! a couple of times. But if you’ve spoken to me outside of the blog, then you know I’m a pretty diehard fan of the series, especially for Makoto, Haruka and Sousuke. There’s a reason as to why I haven’t been so forthcoming with my love for this series. Put simply, my reasons for loving Free! is an unpopular opinion. I love the relationship dynamics depicted between all the characters and the melodrama they experience. To be honest, it was Takuto’s post that bolstered my confidence in that it’s okay to have an unpopular opinion and I shouldn’t be ashamed of the things I love (granted Taku does love the same kinds of shows I do it appears – it’s nice to find a comrade!). Free! is known to be the kind of eye-candy fanservice geared towards women with the amount of abs and pretty boys that are flaunted. But, as pointed out by Annie on AniFeminist, this show also offers emotional fanservice, which is what was my main draw from the series; pretty boys and abs are a plus. And, just to add another positive view on the series from a male perspective I recommend reading Gespenst’s Free! – The AniTAY Review on AniTay’s site.
But don’t get me wrong, while I am an absolute fan of this series and will speak volumes of how much I love this series in a positive light, I get it, it’s a series that’s often poked and prodded at and made fun of. I see where those views come from, and I can laugh about it with you, I’m not so blinded by my love for Free! that I’ll overlook how ridiculously silly the premise can be, or roll my eyes at how cheesy some scenes are. But some of those super cheesy scenes are exactly why I love this show so much!
Sooo, this was bound to happen– My first legitimate BL post. This time I’m not just featuring a character, but the couple themselves. I’m still a semi-novice to the BL scene, and I still have a lot to learn about the different kinds out there. While there is the cute and fluffy type love (Shounen AI) there’s also the more sex-driven side (Yaoi). I actually enjoy the broad spectrum that BL has to offer, and have recognized the pro’s and con’s of this genre. While a lot of it can be disturbing (with the themes and tones of violence and rape) there’s also the feel good kinds of love.
I had intended this to be a list of my favorite canon couples; but decided, I really just want to write about my favorite couple: Yashiro & Doumeki. I think most people I talk to daily (Naja and Mel) would confirm that I’m utterly obsessed with this one. Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai, also known as Twittering Birds Never Fly is a Boys Love manga from Koneda You. It’s also one of the manga’s I own physical copies of and I’m so obsessed that I’ve read these multiple times over and over trying to glean more into the complicated relationship that is evolving between the duo. The manga follows Yashiro, a member of the Yakuza, and is very much a promiscuous masochist, and his subordinate Doumeki, an impotent ex-cop that landed in the Yakuza because he needed a job and also because of an ulterior motive: Yashiro. These two are incompatible, but it works! So, what makes me a fan of this particular pair?
Happy Monday! I love my fair share of action anime’s and of course the flashiness of a gun fight are really exciting to watch! With that being said, this week I bring you my top 5 Gunslinging men!
5. Emiya Kiritsugu (Fate/Zero)
Kiritsugu is the main protagonist of Fate/Zero and has a minor role in Fate/Stay Night as Shirou Emiya’s adoptive Father. He’s known as The Magus Killer as he hunted down heretical magi around the world. He was trained in assassination, tracking and is proficient with all types of weaponry.
Good afternoon everyone! Today’s MCM features my Top 10 Swordsmen. Granted, I’m pretty sure I’m missing a ton of really good swordsmen that are ultimate classics, but you’ll have to forgive me as I have yet to have seen them! (Ex: Ruroni Kenshin, Bleach). So let’s start the countdown to my ultimate swordsmen!
10. King Bradley (Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
King Bradley’s speed with the blade is incredible, but his overall characterization wasn’t my absolute favorite when it comes to swordsman.
LOL, okay I’ll apologize for such a pun of a title. It’s horrible. I could’ve changed it, but I’ve decided to keep the cheesiness of it. So, Sorry not sorry, I guess? With that being said, this week’s MCM features my top 10 orange-haired men.
10. Robato Hatohara (Robot X Laserbeam)
The newest character to add to my ever-growing obsession with sports anime. Robato hails from the new manga Robot X Laserbeam, a manga about Golf, from the mangaka Tadatoshi Fujimaki, the creator of my beloved Kuroko no Basket. Robato’s nickname is “Robo-Kun” as he is expressionless, straight-faced, and completely honest (very much like Kuroko). His classmates basically see him as a robot due to all of his mannerisms. Also, he’s a megane!! Who doesn’t love meganes! ❤
Welcome back to another eye-candy filled MCM to kick off your week! Last week I featured some white-haired men; this weeks goes a few shades darker in featuring my top 10 Silver/Gray haired men. Silver and Gray hair often denotes a type of distinguished, almost sophisticated appeal to a guy. While this may ring true for many of these characters, more often than not – it doesn’t apply!
8. Shogo Haizaki & Chihiro Mayuzumi (Kuroko no Basket)
This list wouldn’t have been complete without a KnB character making an appearance. There are two men in this anime with grey hair. I had a hard time choosing so I decided to leave them in a tie. Haizaki is Kise’s counterpart on the show. Yes, we all know my love for Kise (see my twitter) is undeniable, so why would I pick his arch-enemy to be on the list? He’s the ultimate bad boy on KnB, actually he’s probably the worst guy on KnB, forget being of the bad boy type, he’s a total jerk! He slaps around his teammates and is the most selfish player on the court. He feels entitled because he’s talented; therefore representing everything that KnB does not promote. But still I’d choose Haizaki over Mayuzumi if I really had to. Unfortunately Mayuzumi is just a pawn to Akashi’s plan to win (see my red haired list – he’s number 1) and is easily cast aside when he’s no longer useful.
Happy Monday! This week I’m back to creating a list. This week I’m bringing you my personal take on my Top 5 Blindingly Handsome White Haired Men. White is often associated with purity, innocence, light and perfection but these men are more devilishly handsome than pure, and definitely not innocent, but they are pretty close to perfection.
5. DECIM (Death Parade)
Decim was such a cool character on Death Parade. Of the arbiters, Decim feels bad about one of his misjudgments due to the influence of having Chiyuki around. He starts to understand human emotion a bit more over the course of the series.
Good afternoon Ladies and Gents! It’s that time of the week! I’m here with another Man Crush Monday! This week’s feature is a leading Pink Haired Male. I don’t know many characters with Pink Hair that are guys, except one that fits the bill. He hails from the town of Magnolia on the anime Fairy Tail. That’s right! I’m talk about none other than: Natsu Dragneel.
Natsu is a Dragon Slayer, a person that uses Dragon Slayer Magic. Natsu has the magic of fire that was taught to him by a dragon named Igneel, whom he claims is his Father. One day Igneel, and other dragons disappear from the world, and it becomes Natsu’s lifelong mission to find out where his Father has disappeared to. Okay, so Natsu is your typical shounen character; loud, too energetic, and can be borderline annoying. But, he still has a number of admirable traits about him.
This week’s Man Crush Monday is none other than the green-haired megane, Shintaro Midorima from the anime Kuroko no Basket. Yes, another KnB character! I unfortunately don’t know many green haired males outside of Midorima besides Freed Justine from Fairy Tail, and if I really had to choose between the two, Midorima wins hands down. But, still, special shout out to Freed!
Shintaro Midorima is the Generation of Miracles incredible Shooting Guard from Teiko Junior High as well as their Vice Captain. In High School he becomes Shutoku High’s star players as his impeccable shooting skills has preceded him. Seriously though, I’m not kidding when I say his skills are impeccable; Midorima doesn’t miss shots, and his range of shooting takes up the FULL court. Yes, I know, that’s highly unbelievable and unrealistic because at best a seasoned NBA player could maybe possibly hit half-court shots consistently. But aside from Midorima’s talent as a 3-point shooter, he’s a rather serious but really quirky character. Continue reading “Man Proposes, God Disposes-nanodayo: Shintaro Midorima”→
